Global Survey Launched to Examine Teen and Parent Perspectives on Screen Time

The Parent Coaching Institute (PCI) has launched a comprehensive global survey project examining teen and parental perspectives on screen time and social media usage across multiple regions including the United States, Canada, the Middle East, and Europe. This research initiative seeks to uncover critical insights into digital media consumption patterns and the communication challenges that often arise between parents and teenagers regarding technology use.

Gloria DeGaetano, founder and CEO of PCI, emphasized the research's importance in addressing current gaps in understanding how screen time affects teen mental health. She noted that existing discussions frequently lack comprehensive understanding of teen preferences and the resilience strategies young people develop in response to digital media exposure. The surveys specifically target teens aged 11-18 and their parents, aiming to bridge this knowledge gap through direct engagement with both groups.

Christina Gika, a PCI Certified Parent Coach® and instructor, highlighted the project's focus on overcoming communication barriers that frequently develop between parents and teenagers concerning technology use. By collecting comprehensive data from diverse geographic regions, the research intends to provide families with practical strategies for navigating media challenges while preserving strong interpersonal connections and family relationships.

The survey instruments will explore multiple dimensions of screen time usage, including detailed examination of teen digital behaviors, preferences across different platforms, and parental decision-making processes regarding technology limits and guidelines.
